Walk-In Refrigerators

by admin on Mar.31, 2009, under Best Garage Refrigerators

In the restaurant industry, storing large stocks of food and ingredients is a must to keep the business running.

The daily consumption in such places is easier accounted for when the food stocks are kept at a certain level. Domestic refrigerators are inadequate to cater to this need. For this purpose, walk-in refrigerators are used.

Walk-in refrigerators, in simple terms, are large rooms that are temperature controlled. These can range in size, starting from 100 sq. feet and going up to 350 sq. feet or more, depending on the needs of the user.

Many of these state of the art machines integrate an LCD screen, suggesting what type of food should be stored at what temperatures and the expiry dates of the food stored. As these refrigeration units use filters to purify the air circulating within the room, they come with a filter status indicator. Walk-in refrigerators contain several cooling zones. Air from the freezer section is diverted to the refrigerator door, helping to keep milk or juice in the door shelf colder. A power failure warning is built in to alert the user, usually by flashing the temperature display. The maximum temperature reached during the power failure may be displayed, along with information on whether the frozen food has defrosted or may contain harmful bacteria. These features are mandatory in a walk-in refridgerator as huge quantities of food stocks are stored.

Best Walk-in Refrigerator

Walk-in refrigerators are easy to maintain since they are frost-free. Over time, atmospheric water vapor condenses onto the cooling coils and forms ice. In a refrigerator equipped for frost-free operation, a heater and a thermostat are fitted around the cooling coils. The cooling is periodically switched off and the heater is turned on until the temperature around the coils slightly exceeds the freezing point of water. Once the ice around the cooling coil melts, normal cooling is resumed.

Walk-in freezers are highly valued when storing large quantities of frozen foods. In other settings, laboratories use freezers to keep samples from contamination or degradation. Refrigerators have not only made life simple at home, but also brought about several conveniences at the commercial level, as well.

The Walk-In Beer Refrigerator

Fact: Men and women have different priorities in life when it comes to shopping and everyday living. While the ladies prefer purchasing Manolo Blahnik shoes (not all, but a fair amount), men would rather spend their hard-earned money on beer, snacks and, well, more beer.

Portable 12 Volt Refrigeration

by admin on Mar.31, 2009, under Mini Refrigerators

There is no need to buy a 12 volt DC to 110 volt AC power inverter to run your 110 volt AC refrigerator or freezer from a 12 volt power source.

Not only is this a dangerous way of getting the job done it can also get very expensive and there are some other options out there. We know of some awesome 12 volt DC mobile refrigeration technology and we can’t wait to share it with you. It starts with the patented Swing Motor.

Portable 12 Volt RefrigerationThe Sawafuji Swing Motor is a true reciprocating compressor; it has only one moving part. It doesn’t get any simpler. The piston is connected to an electro dynamic device which is powered by the use of magnetic fields. With this technology there is no need for bearings, cranks or con-rods, so less moving parts means less chance of failure. With only one moving part there is a very low friction loss which means this is a highly efficient compressor.

It has no high start up current draw because when it starts up it can simply move down just a fraction then return. Then it slowly increases the distance the piston travels each stroke until it reaches a full stroke. The Sawafuji Swing Motor does not need to perform a full stroke on start up unlike many rotary type compressors that must perform a complete cycle and need much more current to start.

Because this is purpose built and designed to be a portable refrigerator compressor it has to be engineered to take the harshest of mobile and high vibration conditions.

Convenient transportable freezers/refrigerators that run on any 12 volt power source. They can be used in airplanes, cars, trucks and boats of just about any size - basically anywhere there is a 12 volt power source (including wind generators and solar panels). 12 volt refrigeration is a wonderful idea for those living in remote areas too.

Portable 12 Volt RefrigerationA combination of performance, durability, lower power consumption and consistent reliability are all things you should look for when considering which brand of portable refrigeration is right for you.

For some people just a basic 12 volt or rechargeable cooler will get the job done. But when you need maximum storage space and incredible cooling or freezing power with very little battery draw you must consider some other options. Most smaller less durable brands have a life expectancy of a year or less.

To date we there have been about 3.6 million units using the Swing motor sold world wide.

Energy Star Compact Refrigerators

by admin on Mar.31, 2009, under Garage Refrigerators

Where is the best place to find Energy Star compact refrigerators? Well let’s start with a review of the various purchasing options.

Many people, when they think of appliances, head straight to Sears. But many of my friends and family have felt that their customer service has been lacking in recent years. It is still worth checking out their prices though, in case there is a steep discount over your other options. Other places that are popular for appliances are Home Depot and Lowe’s. This is a relatively new place to purchase home appliances. Both of their customer service and delivery is top notch.

You can also comparison shop at Best Buy and Brandsmart. Try to take your time and compare Energy Star compact refrigerators on paper, ignoring salesmen. It is a good idea to pick up a copy of Consumer Reports, or check their website, to see which brands of refrigerators they recommend as having the least service problems, and which they recommend based on price. It’s a good idea to find a medium between those two options, and of course, energy start compliance.

Small appliances can definitely be energy hogs, so don’t be fooled. Just because you are buying a small refrigerator doesn’t mean you will have a small electric bill. In fact, and I’m not sure why, the inverse seems to be true sometimes. The smallest refrigerator I ever owned seemed to always use the most electricity! I am a refrigerator person and I have at times owned two or more at a time, so I have had room for comparison.

I have also researched how to pick the most energy efficient appliances. You know that Energy Star? That means the refrigerator is 20% more efficient than minimum standards, so you want that star!

But there’s an additional way to compare energy efficiency as well: the yellow sticker (the actual estimated cost to run the appliance) and the rating. "The rating?", you may ask. Yes. There is a rating for each refrigerator in America, assigning a letter grade from A to G. "A" appliances are very efficient, while "G" appliances are not so efficient.

With these tools you are now equipped to find a good refrigerator for your family, that is inexpensive and environmentally conscious. It is also wallet conscious, as an energy efficient appliance will save you money month after month for the entire life of the refrigerator.

    New Garage Refrigerators

by admin on Mar.19, 2009, under Garage Refrigerators

Have you recently been shopping for a new refrigerator? Did you know that your old refrigerator can be recycled through your utility company?

Before you purchase your new refrigerator, you may want to find out how much will it cost to recycle your old one, instead of simply hauling it away. First, you need to consider purchasing an Energy Star qualified refrigerator.

You will save significantly in lower operating costs over the life of the unit, because these refrigerators are so much more efficient than the older, traditional models. They use at least fifteen percent less energy than is required by federal standards and forty percent less energy than conventional refrigerators that were sold as recently as 2001.

Most utility companies will give you up to a twenty five dollar rebate when you purchase a new Energy Star refrigerator from a qualifying retailer in your county. However, this is if you agree to recycle the old refrigerator. The twenty five dollar rebate will help offset the price difference between an Energy Star and a non Energy Star model. Your annual energy savings will more than make up any remaining difference, plus you will receive the rebate from the retailer at the time you buy your refrigerator.

Recycling is free if your old refrigerator is still working and you live in the participating county and are a utility customer of the utility company offering the rebate. The refrigerator has to be at least fourteen cubic feet in size. The program also is open to qualifying customers who want to get rid of an extra refrigerator or freezer that they no longer need.

Many utility companies have been offering this program to their customers since the beginning of 2005 and have picked up and recycled more than four thousand units a year. Instead of ending up in some landfill, these old units were broken apart and recycled into new uses. They have begun this program because older refrigerators, which were manufactured before 1995, have hazardous components and materials that harm the environment if exposed or left in landfills.
These older refrigerators and freezers typically contain chlorofluorocarbon, or CFC, refrigerant, which can deplete the ozone layer above the earth. These utility companies will use a licensed contractor, who is certified to handle these dangerous substances and safely remove them from refrigerators before recycling them.

Every unit they get is completely reused in some manner or another, because they pump all of the CFCs into a cylinder that is taken to a firm in that will repackage them to be reused. After removing the refrigerator’s compressor and draining its oil, which also is recycled, then they will remove and separate the aluminum, steel, and non-metal material such as foam, plastic and glass. They go this extra mile, simply because the metal is so valuable today, plus they separate all the copper wiring as well.

At that point, the remains of the refrigerator are shredded and the scrap is sent overseas, where it is transformed into new products. In addition, to the environmental benefits, the energy savings are significant. Refrigerators that were manufactured before the 1990s, were terribly inefficient compared to today’s models. While it might seem like a good idea to put it in the garage or basement for extra storage, you will find that the amount of electricity these old units use make that storage extremely expensive. Depending on the model, the cost to operate an old refrigerator can run up to twelve dollars a month, sometimes even more.

Based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s personal emissions calculator, replacing an old refrigerator with an Energy Star-rated refrigerator avoids the creation of five hundred twenty one pounds of carbon dioxide.

Based on that figure, customers who recycle their refrigerators have reduced carbon emissions by more than two million pounds, which is the equivalent of the gas emissions created by one hundred sixty.

    Hitachi Refrigerator

by admin on Mar.07, 2009, under Best Garage Refrigerators

Hitachi has been in existence for a century now and has entered India with a host of innovations. Hitachi has banked upon their technological marvels supporting their brand and not letting themselves convert to a particular scenario. Like whirlpool refrigerators have customized their refrigerators as per the Indian scenario and not included the twin door model in India. Hitachi on the other hand has developed a unique 4-door refrigerator giving ample space for freezing options. It depends upon the consumer to look at their needs and follow a brand.

Hitachi has introduced three types of refrigerators till now. They include the conventional 2-door, a unique 3-door and an exceptional 4-door range of refrigerators. Hitachi has introduced ‘minus-zero’ technology which provides uniformity in cooling throughout the refrigerator. This enables equal distribution of cool air. It also adjusts the temperature according to the variations and maintains a consistency in temperature avoiding drying or freezing of food. The 2-door fridge also has an enhanced vegetable storage capacity. It also has a bacteria filter that enables your food to be healthy as the way it should be. The refrigerator also has a lock system to prevent the unnecessary access to your refrigerator.

        3-Door Hitachi Refrigerator

Try Hitachi Refrigerator The 3-door refrigerator is unique in its own manner. It has the refrigerator on the top, the vegetable section in the middle and the freezer on the bottom. They have kept this order keeping in mind the usability of each. As the f

reezer is used the least it is placed in the bottom giving rest to your back. They have developed a unique automatic ice tray which fills up ice by itself. A single filling of water ensures up to 120 filtered ice cubes. This option comes handy while hosting a party. It has also nano-filter for the minute cleaning of bacteria’s. The refrigerator capacity is enhanced and has larger storage capacity for vegetables and foodstuffs. The fridge also promises low noise operation which is very helpful.

    4-Door Hitachi Refrigerator

The 4-door refrigerator is unique in its own manner. It also provides uniform cooling and also saves up to 10% of electricity. This saving is lagging behind the performance of other refrigerators like Lg or Whirlpool which offer up

to 30% savings in electricity. Hitachi needs to improve upon this factor. The 4-door refrigerator has a stylish water dispenser and innovative glass shelves which are heat and water resistance. Hitachi’s innovations have been well appreciated and they continue in building a unique niche for themselves.

    Boat Refrigerators and Freezers

by admin on Mar.07, 2009, under Mini Refrigerators

    Boat onboard electrical equipment

Electricity is a strange source of power. You can’t see it, but you can certainly see its effects in the form of lights and sparks. It is a versatile power source in that it can be used in the form of a motor to drive machinery, as a source of easily controllable heat and light, and for powering electrical devices. It can also be used to generate magnetic effects. It is the versatility and convenience of electricity which makes it such a good source of power in a boat.

Electrical systems use metal wires to transport energy from where it is generated to where it is stored and used. The wire has to be insulated in order that the electrical current follows only the chosen path, because any current leaking from the wire or a connection can lead to trouble. Much of the secret of a sound electrical system is ensuring that the current flows only where you want it to go; in some respects it can be likened to a water supply which is contained within pipes. However, while you can see and hear if the water is flowing, electricity is generally silent, making leaks and other problems hard to locate.

One of the major difficulties on a boat is that in addition to being carried by metal, electricity can also be conducted by water. Anyone who has owned a boat knows how damp it can be both inside and out and the marine environment is a tough one in which to make electric systems operate satisfactorily. Electricity tends to follow the easiest path which could well be the route provided by water if it comes into contact with the system. An additional difficulty is that salt water is also very corrosive, so it is important to remember that, in the marine environment, electricity and water should not mix. If they do, the water will win, causing a breakdown of the electrical system. Water will not only provide an alternative path for the electric current, but also begin the process of corrosion which, if left without attention, can have serious consequences.

Electricity comes in two forms, direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC). AC is the form we enjoy at home as it is easier to transmit over long distances and offers greater flexibility in the higher voltages needed in the domestic environment. AC motors and generators are also more compact and reliable than DC. With AC current, the power flows in alternate directions many times a second, hence AC power might be described as 240 volts, 50 cycles per second (the number of cycles being the number of times the current changes direction every second).

In boats, AC power suffers from the major disadvantage that it cannot be stored in a battery but has to be supplied on a continuous basis by a generator. On a boat you don’t necessarily want a generator running all the time. Moreover, a generator still needs power to start its engine. This means that a battery is needed to store electricity that is available for use when required. The battery will store and produce DC power only, so a boat’s electrical system has to be based on this current.

DC power travels in only one direction along a wire which, in terms of the system itself, makes very little difference. It is the ability to store current in a battery which is such a vital element. Not only does this ability enable you to use electrical appliances when the charging system is not operating, it also fulfils the vital engine starting role, which in turn allows the generator to start, so producing current to recharge the battery and supply the onboard systems.

    Boat Refrigerators and Freezers

Like most electric motors, the refrigerator motor will use a high current when starting up, after which the current will drop back to the continuous use level. Refrigerators and freezers may be rated with the current they will use when the motor is running or they may have the average consumption per hour listed. When you arrive at your boat the refrigerator will have to run continuously for an hour or more before it gets down to its normal operating temperature after which it will run intermittently. Typical small boat fridges will consume around 4 to 5 amps per hour, although during the time the motor is running the consumption could be as high as 12 amps, so the circuits must be rated higher than this to cope with the higher starting power needed.

Boat refrigerators are one of the few motor units on board which run on a more or less continuous basis. This means that when the engine is stopped it will be one of the main users of current and the most likely cause of a flat battery if care is not taken. Some refrigerators include a device in the control circuitry to warn if the battery voltage is dropping. In some cases this will automatically switch off the refrigerator if this occurs, in order to prevent the battery from becoming deeply discharged.

It is possible to buy dual voltage refrigerators so that they can operate on battery power at sea and mains power in harbour. Another option is a refrigerator which can operate from either bottled gas or battery power.

    Boat Heaters

     Boat Heaters

Marine heaters tend to be gas or diesel powered because the electrical loads would be too high unless shore supply or generator power were available. The main requirement with the diesel type of heater is for a power supply for the fan and ignition circuit; here the electrical load is low, probably around 2 amps on a 12 volt system at the higher rated units, and perhaps 0.5 amps on smaller units. Some heaters can incorporate water heating, using diesel or gas. The hot water system is usually controlled and powered by the cold water pressure pump.

Undercounter restaurant refrigerators are useful for storing food below the counter or under a shelf. And worktop fridges allow food to be kept at a safe temperature and provide a workspace for food preparation on top in case there is no available counter space. Both undercounter restaurant refrigerators and worktop restaurant refrigerators come in freezer and refrigerator models — it all depends on what type of food you plan on storing inside of them.
