Wine Cooler Refrigerators
by admin on Feb.26, 2009, under Mini Refrigerators
We’re all familiar with a refrigerator as something that keeps perishable food cool and fresh. Then we have wine cooler refrigerators, or wine refrigerators, that are obviously used to store bottles of wine; but how exactly do these differ from normal refrigerators?
The temperature in your normal kitchen refrigerator is generally too cold for storing wines, and with the frequent opening and closing of the refrigerator door the temperature fluctuates. Limited space could be a problem in a kitchen refrigerator too as the wines should be stored horizontally so as to keep the corks moist and to prevent them from drying out.
A wine refrigerator uses a similar process of cooling as a conventional refrigerator, but is designed specifically to store wines at a pre-set temperature. It is larger than a wine cooler and can store a larger volume of wines.
It is well recognized that red and white wines need to be kept at different temperatures. The controls on a wine refrigerator, then, allow you to program temperatures to suit your selection of red, white or sparkling wines.
Some new models even have a feature that allows you to set the wine refrigerator to temperatures matching the temperatures and atmospheric conditions under which the wine was made. This sounds great if you just had one kind of wine. With most people carrying a variety of wines, however, this feature is not really of much use.
The benefits of having your own wine cooler refrigerator are obvious when you consider some optimum serving temperatures for wines:
Whites and Rose: 45 - 55 degrees Fahrenheit,
Reds: 55 - 65 degrees Fahrenheit,
Sparkling: 42 - 52 degrees Fahrenheit.
Vibration can be detrimental to wines, with the normal compressor-type kitchen refrigerator likely to disturb the natural sedimentation process each time the refrigerator starts a cooling cycle. Compressor-type wine refrigerators, though, are fitted with vibration dampers to eliminate the vibration effects.
Thermoelectric refrigerators don’t contain compressors, so they can provide vibration-free and silent storage for your wines.
The best wine refrigerator choice will depend on a number of factors:
How much do you entertain? Entertaining on a large scale, for example, may demand the purchase of one of the larger units.
What quality of wine will you be storing? Top quality, expensive wines will demand a wine refrigerator having reliable, constant temperature control.
Where will the wine be stored? Storing a unit in the kitchen, for example, means ensuring the installation is well away from a heat source as the heat could affect wine temperature.
If you are a regular wine drinker and appreciate the taste of good wine, then I encourage you to avoid storing your wines in a kitchen-type refrigerator as this can alter the taste of the wine. Using the controlled temperature of a wine refrigerator will maintain the full flavor of your wines for greater enjoyment.

When buying a cheap fridge, start by looking at the size of the kitchen including where the fridge is likely to be positioned and how big a fridge you can.
With capacities ranging from six bottles up to 800 bottles, wine cooler refrigerators can fit under a cabinet or stand against a wall, with many choices in between. Dual zone wine refrigerators are readily available and these can store different styles of wines at different temperatures for long-term storage or drinking.
Everyone among us is familiar with refrigerators. For us it is something that keeps perishable food cool and fresh. Now we have wine cooler refrigerators, or wine refrigerators. These are obviously used to store bottles of wine.
